Carpet Cleaning Tips for Pet Stains and Odors

While pets bring pet owners priceless joy and comfort, cleaning their mess is an ever present challenge especially on carpets.  Left untreated for long periods of time, the pet owner may have no other recourse but to call in professional cleaning companies to thoroughly clean pet stained carpets and eliminate odors.  This is especially problematic for landlords who may realize only too late that a tenant’s pet has regularly done its business inside the house with carpet and flooring replacement the only recourse.

Before you call a cleaning service, The Steam Team in Austin, Texas, at  http://www.thesteamteam.com/austin-cleaning-services/ recommends regular pet stain carpet maintenance.  Pet urine and excrement not only damage carpeting but become a breeding ground for bacteria, mold and persistent unpleasant odors.  It is, therefore, important to clean the area immediately, especially in enclosed areas.  Fresh pet urine is easy to remove by immediate blotting and flushing but once it has soaked for days or even weeks, the ammonia in the urine begins to permeate the area and produce the nasty urine odor.  Pet stains differ from pet odors which may be peskier and even harder to remove if left untreated.  Since pets tend to mark their territory, untrained pets may go to the same area causing more urine deposits.

Carpet Cleaning Tips Pet Stains

  • It is important to clean pet urine as soon as possible before it has soaked into the deeper layers of the carpet and floor board.  Use a clean white cloth or paper towel to blot out as much of the urine as can be removed.  This may take several wringing and blotting until the cloth no longer gets wet.
  • To remove pet excrement stain, gently scrape any solids that is left on the carpet, making sure you are not rubbing it into the deeper layers.
  • Treat the are with a mixture of one part water and two parts vinegar by massaging but not rubbing the stained area several times until you have fully flushed the urine from the carpet. (Another solution safe to use is 1 teaspoon non-alkali detergent to 1 pint of lukewarm water.)
  • Flush out the area with absorbent terry cloth until dry.  The area may also be flushed with an extraction machine preferab;y using clean water only.

Many landlords rely on professional cleaning services to properly and hygienically remove pet stains and odors on carpets. The Steam Team is a company that utilizes the most ecofriendly cleaning supplies possible to do the job.  If you are in the Austin, Texas area, check out their carpet cleaning pet odor removal austin service.
